Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The department teaches courses in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. These courses aim to introduce students to the fundamentals of pharmaceutical chemistry and the relationship between the structural composition of drugs and their impact on biological functions. Additionally, they involve studying various qualitative and quantitative analysis methods for pharmaceuticals. The department also focuses on methods for discovering medical drugs and theories related to drug design and targeting.

The research conducted by the department is classified into three main areas: drug discovery, pharmaceutical analysis, and research related to natural products. Pharmaceutical chemistry research primarily relies on computational chemistry and its applications in drug discovery by supporting the construction of small organic compounds. This approach can be adapted to conduct surveys to identify potential drug compounds and then enhance their pharmaceutical properties to target specific diseases. Pharmaceutical analysis research includes the development of analytical methods for drugs, as well as the development of more effective methods for their detection in various biological samples. It also involves various methods for quality control and quality assurance in drug analysis, including tests for the dissolution or stability of the drug substance. The department also participates in developing new concepts and analytical methods for analyzing components of honey in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
